Something's Better Than Nothing

I've tried making lofty resolutions in the past (one year, I resolved to strengthen myself physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually but didn't have any written down plans so that didn't pan out so well) and sometimes just silly ones (like watching every movie which ever won the Academy Award for Best Picture... and why would that help me?).  This year I'm going with something I read recently.  "Doing something is better than doing nothing."  I have to thank FlyLady for that one.  She operates a home cleaning website (www.flylady.net) which sends you daily emails on what to clean, how to start the day in an orderly fashion, making sure to set aside time to exercise and even just relax. etc.  The website tells you to just jump in and don't try to catch up.  Doing something to straighten up your house today is better than doing nothing. That's what gets me.  Looking at my house you'd never guess I'm a perfectionist.  My view of a perfectionist is a place for everything and everything in it's place.  Then I found out that a perfectionist can also be displayed as someone who wants things to be perfect but does not see how that can be so you'd rather not even try.  Now that speaks to my heart!

So this year is all about just doing something and letting go of my pipe dream perfect.  It will apply to my house, special activities with the kids, homeschool crafts, and even this blog.  I often have elaborate posts boiling in my mind to completely capture an experience we've had and share it with you.  Knowing that's impossible, I turn to Instagram / Facebook and throw out a quick picture and endearing caption.  However, I have a writer's heart.  My thoughts run in paragraphs or imaginary dialogue.  I want to write and yet I take the short cut often.  To me Instagram is like working on a novel while riding the subway full of people on their way to work.  Writing a blog post is like working on the same novel but sitting at a patio table on a balcony overlooking the ocean.  Ahhhh!  That's where I want to be.

Anyway, it's time for me to go do something but for the sake of doing something here first, I'll add a few cute photos.
