Last night was kind of hard seeing my Mom after her surgery. She was very groggy coming out of the anesthesia and because her mouth was so dry, she was having trouble pronouncing words. Thankfully, she said she was in little pain due to the epidural which will remain in through tomorrow. It's not the same type as during childbirth because she can walk around which she did today. I went up to see her at 3:00 this afternoon. My Dad, grandparents and three aunts had been with her since the morning. She looked a lot better but still just very tired. The nurses say everything looks good. Tomorrow morning the stoma nurse will show Mom and Dad how to change the ileostomy bag. Mom is very strong, but then I guess the emotions just steamroll over her. As we were all getting ready to leave (except Dad), she began crying while talking with her parents. She wasn't in pain but just overwhelmed. I remember being connected to IV's and monitors while in the labor with Philip and did feel very trapped. I can only imagine that feeling without the excitement of it being for a baby.
Here are a few photos from her hospital room.
